ICC ODI Women's Batting Rankings: Smriti Mandhana Leapfrogs To Second Spot; See Latest Points Tally

Ace Indian batter and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana powered her side with a blitzkrieg ton in the series open against South Africa at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which resulted in a leapfrog for her in ICC ODI Women's Batting Ranking. This was Mandhana's sixth Century. She now has 715 rating points to her name and is right behind England's Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Sri Lanka's Chamari Athpaththu.

For her outstanding consistent performances, ICC awarded Smriti Mandhana with position 2 spots higher, while Chamari Athpaththu, who was at the top of the chart, has slipped by a position after her failure against the West Indies in the home series.

Smriti Mandhana recently achieved surpassed the 7000-run milestone in international cricket across all formats. She is only behind former captain Mithali Raj, who collected 10868 runs for India.

At the bowling front, India's Deepti Sharma jumped to fourth place in the latest ICC ODI bowling rankings. Sharma has 664 points in her kitty, which is only 12 short of third-placed Kate Cross.

English spinner Sophie Ecclestone continues to be at the top in the latest ICC Women's Bowling rankings.

Coming back to Smriti Mandhana, senior cricket on Sunday helped Team India take the first lead in the three-match series against the Proteas at home.

In the post-match conference, Smriti Mandhana said, "We won the match so really happy that I could contribute, important to start the tournament well, we got 100+ wins, nothing better than that. As I said earlier, it was really a task not to go aerial and go for the grounded shots, we have played a lot of T20 cricket, and today the need was for partnerships, credit to Deepti and Pooja for getting those. It was playing the situation. In one-day cricket and white-ball cricket, there will be days when one or two batters will carry the team. My role was to take it deep, once I was set, having got to 30-40. I don't think anyone got out after getting set and that was the role given to me."
