Sanjay Bangar's Son, Aryan, Undergoes Gender Reassignment Surgery
Aryan Bangar, a rising star in the cricketing world, made the bold decision to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Following the surgery, Aryan is now known as Anaya Bangar, one of the few trans women who aspire to continue playing cricket-a path that, unfortunately, isn't without its challenges.
Anaya Bangar Opens Up About Hormonal Transformation Struggles
On November 10, 2024, Anaya shared a heartfelt video on her Instagram, detailing the changes she has experienced due to her hormonal transformation over the past 11 months. The video served as a personal reflection on how Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has affected her both physically and mentally.
Anaya Bangar Discusses Losing Skills and Muscle Mass After HRT
Earlier in August 2024, Anaya shared another post on Instagram, revealing the impact of Hormone Replacement Therapy on her athletic abilities. She explained how her muscle mass, strength, and muscle memory have significantly declined since she started HRT. Anaya confessed that she never imagined having to give up a sport she has loved all her life, simply due to the decision to undergo sex reassignment surgery.
Anaya Reflects on Her Struggle to Let Go of Cricket Post-Surgery
Anaya has played for various clubs, including Islam Gymkhana and Hinckley Cricket Club in Leicestershire, where she scored many runs. However, she is now confronted with the harsh reality that her dreams of playing cricket may never come true. Due to the regulations set by sports boards regarding transgender athletes, Anaya finds herself unable to meet the criteria for participation.
In August 2024, Anaya posted on Instagram, expressing her frustration about her testosterone levels dropping to 0.5 nmol, yet still being unable to find a platform to represent her country. She shared her dismay, never imagining that her love for cricket would be something she would have to give up because of who she is.
Anaya expressed her frustration, saying, "To make matters worse, the system states that to compete in women's sports, I should have transitioned before male puberty. But here's the contradiction: society and the legal system make it illegal to transition as a minor. So, what am I supposed to do? The system is putting me in an impossible situation, setting standards I couldn't have met even if I had wanted to. It's heartbreaking that the body I've worked so hard to align with my true self is now seen as a barrier to continuing my cricket journey in the women's category."
Anaya currently resides in Manchester, England. In related news, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently announced that, starting from the 2025 season, transgender women will not be eligible to compete in the top two tiers of the new women's domestic structure or in the Women's Hundred.
