Former Sri Lanka Skipper Lahiru Thirimanne, His Family Meet Road Accident, Details Inside

Former Sri Lanka skipper Lahiru Thirimanne met with an unfortunate road accident on Thursday. According to the reports, his high-speed car collided head-on with a lorry coming from the opposite side. He was traveling with his family when the accident happened and all were immediately transported to a nearby Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital soon after the accident.

However, the cricketer and his family are now in stable condition, but under doctors' observation.

Sharing details with the media, a representative from the hospital said, "We wish to inform you that Lahiru Thirimanne and his family were involved in a small car accident while visiting the temple. Thankfully, they have been admitted to the hospital for observation."

"Fortunately, following a thorough medical assessment, we can confirm that they are all safe and sound, with no cause for concern. We appreciate the outpouring of concern and support from everyone during this time. We kindly request respect for their privacy as they recover," the statement added.

The Sri Lankan cricket also represents the New York Strikers in the Legends Cricket. The franchise shared a statement regarding the unfortunate accident and informed fans not to worry as Lahiru Thirimanne is totally safe. The team also thanked cricket fans for showing care and pouring wishes on social media for the cricketer.

Thirimanne has appeared in 44 Test, 127 ODIs and 26 T20Is matches for Sri Lanka. Lahiru bid adieu to international cricket in July last year.

In a similar road accident, in December 2022, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant escaped a deadly accident. However, he received serious injuries on his back and leg. According to the reports, Pant's car overturned when he lost control of his high-speeding car at Dehradoon highway. He was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition by locals, who had not recognised the star cricketer and set a perfect example of humanity.
