David Warner Retires From ODI Cricket A Day Before Test Farewell

It will be a big day for Australian cricket team fans worldwide as stylish left-handed batsman David Warner will bid farewell today. David Warner who decided to retire from the sport last week, will say goodbye to ODI cricket today, Monday. Followed by his retiral from the longest format in the third and final test of the three-match series against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The final test between Australia and Pakistan is slated from January 3 to 5, 2024.

Warner, who is famous for his aggressive and entertaining batting style in all three formats, struck 8695 runs studded with 26 blitzkrieg centuries and 36 fifties. In 111 appearances, the left-hander impressed by scoring at an average of 44.58 runs.

Warner got his international test cap in 2009, till then he has been an important part of the Australian side including World Cup triumphs in 2015 and 2023.

    Addressing a presser, ahead of the Sydney Test, David Warner said: "I've got to give back to the family and also on the back of that I'm definitely retiring from one-day cricket as well."

    Recalling the team's World Cup victory against India in India, he added, "That was something that I had said through the (2023) World Cup, get through that, and winning it in India, I think that's a massive achievement."

    In his address, Warner mentioned that he is always available whenever the team needs him, indicating he might bat again if Australia needed an opener for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The prestigious tournament is slated to be held in Pakistan in 2025.

    "I know there's a Champions Trophy coming up and if I'm playing decent cricket still in two years, and they need someone, I'm going to be available," Warner added.

    In 161 one-day matches, Warner notched 6932 including 22 tons and 33 half-centuries with a splendid strike rate of 97.26.
