Ashwin Unhappy With Team India’s Selection Decisions, Points to Ignored Fast Bowler

Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his surprise at Arshdeep Singh's exclusion from the playing XI. Ashwin stated on his YouTube channel, "Arshdeep Singh's name should be the second name on your fast bowlers' list if Bumrah is playing. If Bumrah is not playing, Arshdeep becomes your first bowler on that team list. I just cannot understand how Arshdeep Singh keeps missing out from the XI in this side. I don't really get it. Of course, Harshit Rana had a decent day with the bat. He batted decently, but this is not about him at all. It's about Arshdeep Singh. The performance he put in during the T20 World Cup in 2024-after that, he has consistently found ways to stay out of the team. He has been benched so many times that he has lost a bit of rhythm."

India's Batting Concerns

Atul Wasan, a former Indian pacer, highlighted concerns over India's batting collapse during the Melbourne match against Australia. He remarked that despite being a World Cup-winning team, traces of overconfidence were evident as they failed to perform to their potential.

Australia secured a four-wicket victory with ease, chasing down India's target of 126 runs with 40 balls remaining. This win gave them a 1-0 lead in the series.

Challenges for Arshdeep Singh

Ashwin further elaborated on Arshdeep Singh's situation by saying that despite his impressive performance during the 2024 T20 World Cup, he has been repeatedly benched. This has affected his rhythm and confidence as a bowler.

"We saw in the Asia Cup, he bowled well, he came back very well in the spell, but he looked rusty," Ashwin noted. "Your champion bowler will look rusty if you don't play him." He emphasized that it's crucial for Arshdeep to be given more opportunities to play and regain his form.

Impact of Momentum in T20 Cricket

Reflecting on India's defeat, Wasan pointed out that T20 cricket offers little room for recovery once momentum is lost. "What to say about T20Is? If it goes wrong suddenly, you can't recover," Wasan explained to IANS. "Once a few overs or sessions go against you, the match is gone from your hands."
