Arshdeep Singh Surpasses Yuzvendra Chahal To Become India’s Leading Wicket-Taker In T20Is

Arshdeep Singh has surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal to become India's leading wicket-taker in T20 internationals.

The left-arm pacer achieved the milestone during the first T20I of a five-match series against England in Kolkata on Wednesday, January 22.

Arshdeep took two crucial wickets in his opening spell, bringing his tally to 97 T20I wickets and overtaking Chahal's previous record of 96. The Punjab bowler reached the landmark in just his 61st T20I appearance for India.

Arshdeep made an early impact in the match, dismissing Phil Salt with a sharp bouncer in the first over. He then claimed the wicket of Ben Duckett, who was beginning to look threatening, in the third over.

The 24-year-old now has a chance to become one of the fastest bowlers in the world to reach 100 T20I wickets. Afghanistan's Rashid Khan currently holds the record, having achieved the feat in only 53 matches.

Most Wickets for India in T20Is:

1. Arshdeep Singh - 97 in 61 matches
2. Yuzvendra Chahal - 96 in 80 matches
3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar - 90 in 87 matches
4. Jasprit Bumrah - 89 in 71 matches

Arshdeep, who debuted in T20Is in 2022, has rapidly developed into one of India's premier fast bowlers in the format. His consistent performances earned him a spot in India's squad for the Champions Trophy.

Notably, Arshdeep also became India's leading wicket-taker in a T20I series during the tour of South Africa last year. He picked up eight wickets in four matches, playing a pivotal role in India's series victory.
