2027 Cricket World Cup: Know Hosts, Qualification And Tournament Format
The 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, the 14th edition of the quadrennial One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament, will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October and November 2027. This marks the second time that South Africa and Zimbabwe will co-host the event since the 2003 edition, while Namibia makes its debut as a host nation. The tournament will expand to accommodate 14 teams, following the format used in the 2003 edition.
In terms of qualification, South Africa and Zimbabwe, as co-hosts, automatically secure spots in the competition. The top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings will also directly qualify. The remaining four positions will be determined through global qualifier tournaments. Although Namibia co-hosts the event for the first time, their participation is contingent upon following the standard qualification pathway, given their non-full ICC membership status.

The competition's format will consist of two groups, each comprised of seven teams. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage, culminating in semi-finals and a final to determine the ultimate winner. Teams will face each other once in the group stage, reminiscent of the 2003 edition. Notably, the 2027 edition will reintroduce a modified version of points carry forward (PCF), a system previously used in the 1999 edition.
Reflecting on past tournaments, Australia clinched a remarkable victory in the 2023 edition by defeating India, propelled by Travis Head's exceptional century on Indian soil. This triumph secured Australia's sixth ODI World Cup title, positioning them four titles ahead of any other cricketing nation from 1975 to 2023.
