200 Test Wickets! Jasprit Bumrah Becomes Fastest Indian Pacer To Take Achieve Mile Stone

India's pace sensation, Jasprit Bumrah on Sunday achieved a new record as he became the quickest Indian fast bowler to achieve 200 wickets in Test cricket. This milestone was reached on the fourth day of the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia. Previously, Kapil Dev held this record, achieving it in 50 matches during a Test against West Indies in March 1983.

Bumrah accomplished this feat in his 44th Test match, equalling Ravindra Jadeja as the joint second-fastest Indian to reach 200 Test wickets. Ravi Ashwin remains the fastest Indian to this milestone, having achieved it in just 37 Tests during a match against New Zealand in Kanpur back in September 2016.

Fastest Indian Bowlers to Reach 200 Test Wickets

The list of fastest Indians to reach this landmark includes Ravi Ashwin (37 matches), Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah (44 matches each), Harbhajan Singh (46 matches), and Anil Kumble (47 matches). Bumrah's achievement is notable for being reached with the fewest balls bowled among these players.

During the Melbourne Test, Bumrah dismissed Travis Head, who had been leading the series in runs with consecutive centuries in Adelaide and Brisbane. In terms of overall records, Pakistan's Yasir Shah holds the record for reaching 200 wickets fastest, doing so in just 33 Tests. Among fast bowlers, Dennis Lillee from Australia achieved it in 38 Tests.

Jasprit Bumrah's Remarkable Bowling Average

Bumrah also boasts an impressive bowling average of 19.56, which is the lowest among all bowlers who have reached this milestone. Additionally, he broke Kapil Dev's record for most wickets by an Indian pacer in a bilateral Test series on Australian soil. His performance has consistently troubled Australian batsmen throughout the series.

In terms of balls bowled to reach 200 wickets, Bumrah ranks fourth fastest globally with 8,484 deliveries. Waqar Younis from Pakistan holds the top spot with 7,725 balls, followed by South Africa's Dale Steyn (7,848) and Kagiso Rabada (8,153).

Bumrah's exceptional form continues to shine as he cements his place among India's cricketing greats. His achievements not only highlight his skill but also contribute significantly to India's success on international platforms.
