However, Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun of South Korea claimed silver, while Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev of Kazakhstan took bronze.

The reigning world champions topped the qualifying round ahead of their Korean rivals at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre.

The gold medal round was challenging, despite the Chinese duo racing to a 14-8 lead after the first 11 shots.

Keum and Park mounted a late comeback, narrowing the gap to 14-12, but the Chinese pair ultimately prevailed 16-12.

Le and Satpayev earned Kazakhstan their first medal of the Paris Games with a 17-5 victory over the German pair, Anna Janssen and Maximilian Ulbrich.

After a global pandemic and amidst ongoing wars, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games began Friday with a spectacular open-air opening ceremony.

In a historic first, around 10,500 athletes paraded down the Seine River in a 3.5-mile flotilla of 94 boats, instead of inside a stadium. The athletes, in uniform, cheered and waved to spectators, keeping the mood lively despite the rain.
