Arshdeep Singh Injured: Unavailability for Fourth Test Against England Raises Concerns

Arshdeep Singh, the Indian left-arm pacer, is unlikely to be available for the fourth Test against England in Manchester starting July 23. He sustained an injury to his left hand during a net session in Beckenham while attempting to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan. This injury has put his participation in doubt as he has not yet played in the ongoing Test series.

Arshdeep Singhs Injury Update for Fourth Test

During the training session, Arshdeep was seen with his bowling hand bandaged. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate hinted that Arshdeep might struggle to recover in time for the Manchester Test. "We'll take a call on the combination we play, particularly given the Arshdeep situation as well, we'll make that call closer to Manchester," Doeschate stated.

Team Selection and Injury Concerns

The Indian team arrived in Manchester on Saturday with hopes of levelling the five-match series after their loss at Lord’s. The team management is considering their options for the playing eleven, especially with Arshdeep's injury affecting their plans. The medical team is assessing whether stitches are required for Arshdeep's cut, which will influence their strategy for the upcoming days.

Arshdeep was only expected to play if senior pacers Jasprit Bumrah or Mohammed Siraj were rested due to workload management. Bumrah, Siraj, and Akash Deep were part of the pace attack at Lord’s. The decision on whether Bumrah will participate in the Manchester Test or save himself for The Oval remains uncertain.

Pace Attack Adjustments

There is also uncertainty surrounding Akash Deep's availability due to a groin niggle. Siraj has played all matches so far and might need rest soon. The team must carefully manage their pace resources with these injury concerns and workload considerations.

Doeschate explained further about Arshdeep's condition: "He took a ball while he was bowling there, Sai had a ball and he tried to stop it and it's just a cut, so we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team has taken him off to see a doctor and obviously if he needs stitches or doesn’t need stitches that's going to be important to our planning for the next few days," he mentioned post-training in Beckenham.

The Indian team's strategy will depend heavily on player fitness and recovery as they aim to bounce back in the series. With key players dealing with injuries, selecting the right combination will be crucial for their success in Manchester.
