Vantika Agrawal Celebrates Arjuna Award as Career Milestone, Aiming for Top 10 Global Ranking

India's emerging chess talent, Vantika Agrawal, considers receiving the Arjuna Award a pivotal moment in her career. Her next major goals are to enter the top 10 in global women's rankings and achieve the Grandmaster title. "I am deeply honoured to receive the Arjuna Award. Winning this award is one of the most defining moments of my career and a major personal milestone in my life," Vantika stated.

Vantika Agrawals Arjuna Award and Future Goals

Her remarkable performance at India's Chess Olympiad win in 2024 saw her rise 12 places in global rankings, gaining 13 ELO points. Currently ranked 39th in women's classical rankings, she holds 2411 points. Vantika expressed gratitude to her coaches, family, and supporters like Pravaha Foundation and MGD1 for their unwavering support throughout her journey.

Vantika's Ambitions in Chess

Vantika aims to inspire future Indian chess players, especially women, to pursue excellence. "Chess has given me the privilege to represent my country, and this honour fuels my ambition to elevate Indian chess to even greater heights," she said. Her aspirations include breaking into the top 10 globally and earning the Grandmaster title.

Meanwhile, Indian squash player Abhay Singh was caught off guard by his Arjuna Award news while napping in a cab en route to training in England. The 26-year-old aims to enter the top 30 world rankings this year. He described the honour as significant but admitted that the full emotion hasn't yet sunk in.

Abhay Singh's Journey

Abhay shared how he learned about the award: "I was sleeping in an Uber on the way to training, and someone sent me a congratulations message." He acknowledged his family's sacrifices and hopes they feel proud of his achievements. Abhay helped India secure fifth place at the recent World Squash Team Championships.

His parents' reactions were typical; his father was excited as after the Asian Games final, while his mother eagerly awaits his return from long trips. Abhay is currently training in England and plans to compete in several USA events before returning for India's National Games in Dehradun.

Reflecting on his journey, Abhay shared a lesson: "I've learned a few valuable lessons, one is to keep the head down when it's going well and to keep the head up when it's not and that's how I like to go about things." Both athletes continue striving for excellence while representing India on international stages.
