Abhinav Bindra Consoles Vinesh Phogat After Her Disqualification From Paris Olympics Wrestling Finals
India faced a significant blow at the Paris Olympics when Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50kg wrestling final. The Indian Olympic contingent revealed that Phogat exceeded the 50 kg weight limit, leading to her disqualification. Abhinav Bindra, an Olympic gold medallist, expressed his support for Vinesh on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, "Completely gutted. Sometimes you don't need a gold medal to be a true champion to people...." His message aimed to console and uplift Vinesh during this challenging time.

Prime Minister Modi's Support
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reached out to Vinesh after her disqualification. He posted on X, "Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India's pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today's setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing. At the same time, I know that you epitomise resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head-on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you."
The Prime Minister also contacted PT Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), seeking detailed information about the situation and exploring possible options for Vinesh's case. He urged PT Usha to file a strong protest if it could help Vinesh's situation.
Official Statement from Indian Contingent
The Indian contingent issued a statement expressing their regret over Vinesh's disqualification: "It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women's Wrestling 50 kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50 kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time."
The statement also requested privacy for Vinesh and emphasized focusing on ongoing competitions: "The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh's privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand."
Vinesh had secured her spot in the Gold Medal bout after defeating Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez with a score of 5-0 in the semi-finals held on Tuesday night.
