A Night To Remember: France's Olympics Opening Ceremony Dazzles The World
The 33rd Olympic Games kicked off in Paris with a captivating opening ceremony, transforming the city into a grand stage. The Seine River became the route for the athletes' procession, showcasing France's rich culture, revolutionary spirit, and architectural heritage.
French President Emmanuel Macron officially declared the Games open, marking the start of 16 days of competitions. The ceremony began with a pre-recorded video of football legend Zinedine Zidane carrying the Olympic flame through Paris streets.

Athletes' Procession on the Seine
The parade started from Austerlitz Bridge, featuring 85 boats carrying over 6,800 athletes. They were greeted by loud cheers from the crowd. The Greek team led the procession as the spiritual home of the Games, followed by the Refugee team.
Despite heavy rain threats, participants remained undeterred. The order of arrivals followed French alphabetical sequence. India's contingent entered at the 84th position, led by PV Sindhu and A Sharath Kamal as flag-bearers.

Indian Contingent's Appearance
The Indian athletes and officials showcased their national pride in traditional attire. Female members wore sarees while male athletes donned "kurta-payjama" in Indian tricolor shades.

The boats passed iconic landmarks like Notre Dame Cathedral and Louvre Museum. The restored Notre Dame had suffered a devastating fire five years ago.
Artistic Performances and Highlights
American pop star Lady Gaga was among the first international artists to perform. Artistic director Thomas Jolly directed the ceremony. A mysterious torchbearer captured attention as he darted around famous landmarks carrying the flame.

The ceremony included dance performances on bridges along the parade route. Over 200,000 free tickets were distributed to fans, with more than 100,000 sold.
Honouring French Craftsmanship
A segment showcased workshops of Monnaie de Paris where medals for the Games are forged. A total of 5,084 medals are being produced for 2024, each containing a piece of Eiffel Tower.

A political theme titled 'Emancipation' paid homage to the French Revolution sparked by King Louis XVI's extravagance. A figurine depicting Marie Antoinette referenced her infamous quote about cake.

Unforgettable Spectacle Promised
Organisers promised an unforgettable event despite logistical and security challenges. They claimed it would be the largest in Olympic history with over 300,000 spectators along Seine and billions watching on TV.

This marks Paris's third time hosting Olympics after events in 1900 and 1924. India is represented by 117 athletes including 47 women in this sporting spectacle.
