Details

The Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0 is a key initiative by the government to ensure cleaner cities across India. It aims to tackle the sanitation challenges faced by urban households.

What Is This Scheme?

Essentially, this mission is all about making our cities cleaner and healthier. Its main focus is on building toilets in homes where they are missing. This includes converting old, unhygienic toilets into modern ones. Beyond household toilets, it also supports community and public toilets, managing solid waste, raising awareness, and building capacity for better sanitation practices.

Who Can Benefit From This Scheme?

The scheme is designed for urban households that currently lack individual toilet facilities. It's particularly helpful for those who might be relying on open defecation or have outdated, unhygienic latrines. The goal is to ensure that every urban home has access to a safe and clean toilet.

Why This Scheme Is Important

A clean environment is crucial for public health and dignity. By providing financial assistance for toilet construction, this mission aims to eliminate open defecation in urban areas, which directly improves health outcomes and the overall quality of life for citizens. It's a significant step towards achieving the goal of open defecation-free cities.
