Details

The Odisha government, through its Department of Women & Child Development, has launched a crucial initiative under the Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana (MSPY). This scheme is designed to boost the nutritional well-being of adolescent girls across the state.

What Is This Scheme?

The "Adolescent Girls Nutrition" component of the Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana (MSPY) is a dedicated effort to provide essential nutritional support. It aims to address the unique health needs of young girls during their formative years, ensuring they receive adequate nourishment for healthy growth and development.

Who Can Benefit From This Scheme?

The primary beneficiaries are adolescent girls. Specifically, the scheme covers all girls between 15 and 19 years old throughout Odisha. However, in the 10 identified Aspirational Districts, the focus is on girls aged 18 to 19 years. This targeted approach ensures that those most in need receive this important support.

Why This Scheme Is Important

Adolescence is a critical phase for physical growth. The scheme recognizes that proper nutrition during these years is vital for overall health, preventing anaemia, and setting the foundation for healthier pregnancies and childbirths later in life. By providing regular nutritional supplements, the scheme aims to empower adolescent girls with better health outcomes.

Objective

This scheme focuses on improving nutrition for adolescent girls aged 15-19 across Odisha, with specific age coverage for 18-19 year olds in 10 Aspirational Districts.

Benefits

Need-based loan for acquisition of capital goods equipments required for the activity.

  4. In the Non-Aspirational districts, all adolescent girls aged 15-19 years residing within the service area of any Anganwadi Centre (AWC) are eligible to receive Take Home Ration under this scheme.
  5. Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) are responsible for creating a list of eligible adolescent girls in their service areas and enrolling them in the programme.

How To Apply

The application process is managed at the local level through Anganwadi Centres (AWCs):

  1. Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) will prepare a comprehensive list of all adolescent girls (aged 15-19 years) who reside within their designated service area.
  2. These eligible girls will then be enrolled in the programme by the AWWs.
  3. Beneficiaries will receive their Take Home Ration (THR) consisting of eggs, roasted chana, and paushtik bhel at their local Anganwadi Centre (AWC) on the 1st of each month.
  4. Anganwadi Workers also distribute weekly eggs during Kishori Diwas/Advika sessions and ensure supervised consumption along with providing Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) tablets.

Documents Required

  • Proof of Identity (e.g., Aadhaar Card)
  • Proof of Date of Birth (e.g., Birth Certificate)
  • Any other documents as may be required by the Anganwadi worker or for specific verification.
