What is the duration for the Master's and PhD programs under the QIP?
The Master's Degree program duration is two years with no extension provision. For the PhD program, it's typically three years, and extensions are generally not granted, though a maximum six-month delay in joining after Pre-Ph.D. coursework can be permitted by the QIP Centre Coordinator. Any delay beyond this needs AICTE approval.
Are there any provisions for maternity or paternity leave for scholars?
Yes, maternity/paternity leaves are provided according to Government of India norms. These are given at full scholarship rates, but only once during the scholarship tenure. The overall duration of the scholarship will not be extended because of these leaves.
What financial aid is provided for PhD studies?
For the PhD program, scholars receive a scholarship of ₹15,000 per month and an annual contingency grant of ₹15,000. Additionally, there's a one-time lump sum for Pre-Ph.D. expenses, a Travel Allowance (TA) of ₹15,000, and a Daily Allowance (DA) of ₹30,000 for a 60-day Pre-Ph.D. period. TA/DA are not applicable if the candidate's parent institute and the admitting institute are the same.
What happens if a scholar leaves the program midway?
If a scholar fails to complete the course or leaves the program before finishing, they will be required to repay all the scholarship amounts they have received.
How are the scholarships and allowances paid to the selected candidates?
All financial benefits, including scholarships and contingency grants, are directly transferred to the scholar's Aadhar-linked bank account through the DBT mode. This disbursement is managed via the online QIP portal.
Can a scholar receive financial aid from other sources while on the QIP scholarship?
If a scholar accepts financial assistance from any other source during their tenure, they will not be eligible to receive the AICTE scholarship for the period they are receiving the other aid.
What are the basic leave entitlements for scholars?
Scholars are allowed 15 days of casual leave per academic year. They are also entitled to medical leave, which can be up to a maximum of one month (30 days) in an academic year. All leaves require prior approval from the QIP center.
What is the initial year of the Quality Improvement Programme's establishment?
The Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) was initiated by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in the year 1970.
What are the scholarship amounts for Master's level studies under QIP?
For Master of Engineering (ME) or Master of Technology (M.Tech) programs, scholars receive a monthly scholarship of ₹9,000 and an annual contingency grant of ₹5,000.
What is the primary purpose of the QIP scheme?
The main objective of the Quality Improvement Programme is to elevate the academic standards by enhancing the expertise and skills of faculty members in both diploma and degree-level technical institutions across the country.
What are the minimum teaching experience requirements for the PhD program?
To be eligible for the Ph.D. Program under QIP, faculty members must have at least three years of teaching experience in graduate-level technical institutes.
How are candidates notified if they are shortlisted for selection processes?
Candidates who are shortlisted will be informed via email. The notification will typically include details about the date and time for interviews or tests. It is important to regularly check your email for such communications.
What if a candidate gets selected by multiple QIP institutes?
If a candidate is selected by more than one QIP Institute, they must finalize their choice and lock it within the specified timeframe, as communicated via email. This action determines their final institute for the program.
Is the application fee refundable if a candidate decides not to proceed?
No, the application fee is non-refundable. Once paid, it cannot be returned under any circumstances. Candidates are advised to be sure of their application before submitting it.
What happens if a selected candidate declines the offer or doesn't join?
If a selected candidate opts out or fails to join, waitlisted candidates may be offered a place. The respective QIP institute will then extend an offer to the next candidate on the waiting list to fill the vacant seat.
How are final admission offers communicated to selected candidates?
Selected candidates will receive their final admission offer letters directly from the concerned QIP Institute. This notification will be sent via email, and candidates can also check the QIP portal for updates.
Can a scholarship be cancelled due to misconduct?
Yes, the scholarship can be stopped if the Head of the Institute recommends it due to misconduct. If a scholarship is terminated for disciplinary reasons, the scholar will have to refund all scholarship money received during their course.
