The scheme targets to provide following benefits:1) Increase in productivity of crops through diversification, from traditional crops to plantations, orchards, vineyards, flowers, vegetable gardens and bamboo plantations; and extension of appropriate technology to farmers.2) Promotion of R&D technologies for cultivation, production, post-harvest management and processing with special focus on cold chain infrastructure for extending the shelf life of perishables3) Improvement in post harvest management, processing for value addition and marketing infrastructure.

Who Can Apply?

  • You must have successfully qualified for the National Eligibility Test-Junior Research Fellowship (NET-JRF) conducted by UGC or the UGC-CSIR joint test.
  • You need to register for an M.Phil. or Ph.D. program in a recognized University, Institution, or College.
  • This registration must be done within two years from the date your NET-JRF result is declared, or from the date your award letter is issued, or from the date you join the fellowship, whichever is applicable.

How to Get the Fellowship

The fellowship is awarded to those who qualify the NET-JRF or UGC-CSIR joint tests. After qualifying, you need to:

  1. Register for an M.Phil./Ph.D. program at a university or institution.
  2. After registration, you will receive an award letter.
  3. Once you receive the award letter, you need to get your documents verified by the Department office.
  4. Submit these verified documents to the Academic office, which will then be uploaded on the UGC Canara Bank portal.
  5. The required documents for submission after receiving the award letter include your Joining report, HRA form, UGC award letter, and your last qualifying degree certificate.
  6. You must submit a half-yearly progress report every six months to the Academic office, so they can forward it to the UGC for the continuous release of your fellowship.
  7. Upon completing two years, you need to submit a report from a three-member assessment committee for upgrading from JRF to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF). This report should be submitted to the Academic office for uploading on the UGC portal.
  8. Forms for contingency and HRA need to be personally signed by the Academic office and then directly submitted to the Accounts section. Soft copies are not accepted.

Yes, Housing Rent Allowance (HRA) is provided as per the Government of India's city categorization. However, if you are provided with suitable single-seated hostel accommodation, you will not receive HRA.

Will my medical expenses be covered under this fellowship?

This fellowship does not provide separate medical assistance. However, you can use the medical facilities that are available at your institution, university, or college.

How much leave can a fellow take each year?

Fellows are allowed a maximum of 30 days of leave annually, in addition to public holidays. No other vacation is provided.

Is there any provision for maternity or paternity leave?

Yes, maternity/paternity leave is granted according to Government of India norms. Fellows receive their full fellowship amount during this leave, and it can be availed once during the fellowship tenure.

What is an 'Intermittent Break' for female scholars?

Women candidates can take an 'Intermittent Break' of up to one year in total. This break can be availed a maximum of three times during the entire fellowship period. The total duration of these breaks will not exceed one year and will not be counted towards the fellowship tenure.

When do I need to submit my progress reports?

You are required to submit your half-yearly progress report to the Academic office every six months. This is necessary for the UGC to continue releasing your fellowship payments.

How does a fellow move from JRF to SRF status?

After completing two years in the JRF program, you need to get an assessment report from a three-member committee. This report is then submitted to the Academic office for uploading on the UGC portal to facilitate the upgrade to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF).
