What Is This Scheme?

This programme is designed to give young law students a real-world glimpse into the workings of the Department of Justice. You'll get to be involved in research and referencing work across several key areas of justice delivery.

The cash incentives is provided in two instalments for the first child as per the schedule provided intable below:
  • Scheme Condition for First Child
  • InstalmentConditionsAmount (in Rs.)First InstalmentOn registration of pregnancy and at least one Antenatal checkup within six months from last menstrual period date at the Anganwadi Centre or approved Health facilities may be identified by the respective administering State/UT.3,000/-Second InstalmentChildbirth is registered. The child has received all due vaccines till the age of 14 weeks as admissible under the Universal Immunization Programme of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.2,000/-
  • Scheme Condition for Second Child (if it is a girl child)
  • Single InstalmentOn registration of pregnancy and at least one Ante-Natal Check-up (ANC) within six months from LMP at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) approved Health facilities may be identified by the respective administering State/UT. The girl child birth shall be registered under this Scheme. The girl child has received all due vaccines till the girl child attains age of fourteen weeks from the date of birth as admissible under the Universal Immunization Programme of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.6,000/-In case of miscarriage/still birth, the beneficiary would be treated as fresh beneficiary in event of anyfuture pregnancy.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for this internship, you must be an Indian student and meet one of the following conditions:

    1. You have completed your 2nd year and are about to enter your 3rd year of a law degree course.
    2. You are currently studying in the 3rd year of a three-year law degree course.
    3. You are studying in the 4th year and have completed the examinations to enter your 5th year of a law degree course.
    4. You are currently studying in the 5th year of a five-year law degree course.

    How To Apply

    The internship programme runs for a period of one month (four weeks). A maximum of 10 interns will be selected per month, depending on the Department's needs. Each selected intern will be placed with an officer at the level of Deputy Secretary/Director/Joint Secretary, or in the office of the Secretary of the Department of Justice, or the Minister of State for Law & Justice. Maintaining 90% attendance is mandatory for successful completion. This is a full-time internship requiring physical presence.

    Interns may receive an honorarium of ₹ 5,000 upon successful completion of their internship period.

    Can I get a certificate after completing the internship?

    Yes, upon satisfactory completion of the internship, you will be awarded a Certificate of Internship.

    What is the duration of this internship programme?

    The internship typically lasts for one month, which is equivalent to four weeks.

    How many students can intern each month?

    The Department can accommodate a maximum of 10 interns each month, depending on their requirements.

    Which specific areas of law will the internship cover?

    What is the attendance requirement for the internship?

    At the end of the internship, all interns are required to submit a report detailing the work they have carried out within the Department.

    Am I eligible if I am in my second year of a five-year law course?

    Yes, you are eligible if you are studying in the 4th year and have written the exams to enter the 5th year of a five-year degree course, or if you are studying in the 5th year. Students in their 2nd year of a three-year degree course are also eligible.

    Will I get a job at the Department of Justice after this internship?

    This internship does not guarantee any future placement within the Ministry, Department, or any associated organizations.

    Can school students apply for this programme?

    No, this programme is specifically for university students pursuing a law degree. You must be in at least the second year of a three-year degree or the third year of a five-year degree course to apply.
