The amount of cash incentive depends on the number of countries participating in the event and whether the medal was won in an individual or team competition. For major events like the Olympics and Asian Games, there's a set incentive per medal. For other events, it varies based on participation levels.

What happens if an athlete wins multiple medals?

For events such as the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, and Para-Asian Games, an incentive is provided for each medal won. For other international events, athletes typically receive the incentive for their highest-achieving medal.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, through its Department of Sports, is responsible for implementing and managing this scheme. They handle the guidelines, eligibility, and disbursement of incentives.

However, specific major events like the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, Para-Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games have their own incentive structures, while other international events have a separate calculation method based on participant numbers.

    Are coaches also rewarded financially?

Yes, absolutely. The coaches of medal-winning athletes are recognized for their contribution and receive 50% of the cash incentive awarded to the sportsperson.

What if very few teams participate in a specific event?

If fewer than 4 teams compete in an event, no cash incentive will be provided under this scheme. This ensures that the competition is of a certain standard.
