Details

The Indian government, through the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has launched the India BPO Promotion Scheme (IBPS). This initiative is a big step towards bringing Information Technology and IT-Enabled Services (ITeS) jobs to smaller cities and towns across the country. The main goal is to create more employment for young people and encourage more investment in this growing sector.

What Is This Scheme?

The IBPS offers financial help, known as Viability Gap Funding (VGF), to companies looking to start or expand BPO/ITeS operations in places outside the major metropolitan hubs. This funding makes it easier for businesses to set up their offices and operations, contributing to the 'Digital India' vision.

Who Can Benefit From This Scheme?

The primary beneficiaries are companies and entrepreneurs who want to establish and run BPO or ITeS units. The scheme specifically encourages setting up these units in eligible locations, creating jobs, and bringing economic development to smaller urban areas.

Why This Scheme Is Important

IBPS is crucial for fostering balanced regional development. By decentralizing IT/ITeS operations, it aims to reduce migration to big cities, create local employment opportunities, and harness the talent available in Tier-II and Tier-III cities. The scheme targets the establishment of a significant number of BPO/ITeS seats, boosting the overall IT landscape of India.

Objective

This scheme aims to boost job creation and investment in the IT and IT-enabled services sector by helping companies set up BPO units in smaller towns. It provides financial support through Viability Gap Funding.

Benefits

  1. Under the project, rural development work is carried out by forming clusters of villages across various districts of the state.
  2. Based on the natural resources available in the selected villages, various units are established to improve farmers' livelihoods through the application of science and technology.
