Objective

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) offers a Summer Internship Scheme for bright young scholars and researchers interested in Public Policy, Economics, Law, Finance, and Management.

Benefits

1. Maximum assistance under the scheme component, including applicable duties & taxes and also Operation & Maintenance (O&M) costing for five years, will be as under:

(i)Audio:₹100 Lakh; (ii)Audio+Video:₹150 Lakh

2. All grants under the scheme will be of a non-recurring nature. Recurring expenditures, if any, will be the responsibility of the grantee organization.

3. Assistance under this component to an organization will be restricted to a maximum of 90% (including taxes and duties) of the approved estimated project cost along with five years of O&M costs, within the prescribed monetary ceiling. The balance of the approved estimated project cost is to be incurred by the organization as its ‘matching share’.

Note:While indicating the cost estimate of the equipment, the applicant organization will have to separately specify the duties & taxes and O&M costs for five years.

Who Can Apply?

  1. You must be an Indian national.
  2. You should be currently studying or have completed your graduation in India or abroad.
  3. A strong academic record is essential.
  4. You need to have a graduation degree in Public Policy, Economics, Finance, Management, or Law.
  5. You must have scored at least 60% marks in your graduation.
  6. Your graduation should be from one of the following types of institutions:
    • National Schools of Law
    • Central Universities
    • AICTE-approved Financial/Economics Institutions
    • Recognized National Management Institutes
    • Foreign Universities
    • Institutions of national repute/excellence

You can present your work if you get prior permission from the Department. Just make sure not to share any confidential information.

No, please note that interns are not considered employees. There's no guarantee of future employment with DGFT based on the internship.

Is there a financial reward for participating?

Yes, interns will receive a token remuneration of Rs. 10,000 per month for the duration of their internship.

What happens at the end of the internship?

Once you complete your internship, you are expected to submit a report or a paper to the Head of the Division you were attached to.

What if I'm currently enrolled in a course and want to do this internship?

If you're doing the internship as part of your studies, you’ll need to provide a permission letter from your Supervisor or Head of Department.

Will I receive a certificate after completing the internship?

Yes, if you complete your internship satisfactorily and submit your report, you'll be awarded a certificate by the concerned Division Head.

Are there any specific qualifications that get preference?

Candidates pursuing or holding post-graduation degrees in Economics, Finance, Management, or Law will be given preference.

What is the expected conduct during the internship?

Interns are expected to maintain professional behaviour in all their interactions with the Department and the public, following the Department's Code of Conduct.
