Details

Thinking about switching to an electric vehicle or setting up a charging station in Gujarat? The Gujarat State Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 is here to help!

What Is This Scheme?

The Gujarat State Electric Vehicle Policy 2021, brought to you by the Ports and Transport Department, is a big step towards cleaner transportation. It's designed to get more electric vehicles (EVs) on the road, make Gujarat a leader in EV manufacturing, encourage new businesses in the EV sector, and improve air quality by reducing pollution.

Who Can Benefit From This Scheme?

This policy is for everyone interested in electric mobility: individuals buying EVs, businesses looking to set up charging stations, and companies involved in manufacturing EVs and their parts.

Why This Scheme Is Important

By offering attractive subsidies and incentives, the policy aims to make EVs more affordable and accessible. It also supports the growth of EV charging infrastructure and promotes Gujarat as a key manufacturing center for electric vehicles and related technologies, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

Objective

Gujarat's EV Policy aims to boost electric mobility by offering subsidies for buying electric vehicles and setting up charging stations, making the state an EV manufacturing hub.

Benefits

  • A subsidy of 75% of the total cost of the electric auto (e-Auto) or ₹3,00,000/- whichever is less will be paid.
  • This subsidy is paid after utilizing Central Government incentives under the Pradhan Mantri E-DRIVE Scheme (FAME-3), which provides a maximum subsidy of ₹50,000/-.
  • The total cost of the electric auto will be calculated excluding extra accessories.
  • Disbursement
  • In case the beneficiary has already purchased the vehicle:The applicant must submit the original invoice along with the application to the Department, and the subsidy amount will then be credited to the beneficiary’s account.
  • In case the beneficiary has not purchased the vehicle:The applicant must pay 25% of the total cost of the vehicle as an initial payment to the dealer. The applicant has to submit the invoice for payment along with the application, and the subsidy amount will then be credited to the dealer's account.
  • Post-Selection Obligations
  • The beneficiary should not cause or permit a male driver to drive the vehicle.
  • The beneficiary must retain all relevant documents for 5 years from the date of subsidy disbursement.
  • The applicant has no power to sale/lease or any other transfer of ownership of the vehicle for a period of 5 years.
  • If the information furnished by the beneficiary is false or if the electric auto is found to have been sold within the 5-year period, the total subsidy is liable to be returned to the Government or recovered with interest from the beneficiary.

    FAQ’s

What is the maximum subsidy I can get as a percentage of my electric vehicle's ex-factory price?

The maximum subsidy you can receive is capped at 40% of the vehicle's ex-factory price. The final subsidy amount will be the lower of the calculated subsidy based on battery capacity or this 40% limit.

If I want to set up a commercial public EV charging station, what's the most capital subsidy I can get per station?

You can receive a 25% capital subsidy on the equipment and machinery costs, with a maximum limit of ₹10,00,000 per station. This offer is valid only for the first 250 commercial public charging stations established.

What's the highest ex-factory price for a 2-wheeler EV to qualify for the purchase subsidy?

To be eligible for the purchase subsidy, your 2-wheeler electric vehicle must have an ex-factory price of ₹1,50,000 or less. EVs priced above this limit won't qualify.

Can I claim subsidies from this policy if I've already gotten benefits from other state government schemes for the same EV purchase?

No, you cannot claim subsidies from multiple state government schemes. The policy requires you to choose and avail subsidy under only one state government scheme at a time.

What Central Government scheme must my electric vehicle be linked to for me to get purchase subsidies under this Gujarat policy?

Your electric vehicle must have received a subsidy under the Government of India's Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India Scheme, notified on 8th March 2019, or any amendments made to it.

If I plan to install a charging station at my petrol pump, what extra safety certificate do I need for the subsidy?

For charging station installations at petrol pumps, you'll need to provide a Fire and Safety Standard Compliance Certificate specific to such locations. Your station must also meet the Ministry of Power's guidelines and standards from 1st October 2019.

How is the subsidy calculated for buying electric vehicles, based on battery capacity?

The subsidy is calculated at ₹10,000 per kilowatt hour (kWh) of your vehicle's battery capacity. The final amount you receive will be the lowest among the calculated subsidy, 40% of the ex-factory price, and the specific maximum limit per vehicle type.

Am I eligible for charging station subsidies if I have already received grants from other Central Government schemes?

No, if you have already availed subsidies under any other promotional schemes of the Government of India, you will not be eligible for the charging station subsidies under this Gujarat policy.

What is the maximum ex-factory price limit for 4-wheeler EVs to be eligible for subsidies?

For 4-wheeler electric vehicles, the ex-factory price must not exceed ₹15,00,000 to qualify for the purchase subsidy. Vehicles priced above this threshold are not eligible.

Can I use my existing agriculture electricity connection to charge an EV and get benefits from this policy?

No, you cannot use existing agriculture electricity connections under their current tariff to charge electric vehicles and claim benefits under this policy.

What benefits can I expect in the EV manufacturing sector if I'm making EV components in Gujarat?

You can avail all the benefits provided under the Gujarat Industrial Policy-2020 that are applicable to the electric vehicle manufacturing sector. This includes support for setting up or upgrading your manufacturing facilities.

How will I receive the subsidy for my electric vehicle purchase?

The subsidy for electric vehicle purchases will be directly transferred to your bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode by the State Transport Department, after your vehicle purchase documents have been verified.

What is the maximum ex-factory price for a 3-wheeler EV to be eligible for purchase incentives?

Your 3-wheeler electric vehicle should have a maximum ex-factory price of ₹5,00,000 to be eligible for the purchase incentives under this scheme. Prices exceeding this limit will disqualify the vehicle from benefits.

Does the policy offer any electricity duty benefits for commercial public EV charging stations?

Yes, commercial public electric vehicle charging stations will receive a 100% exemption from electricity duty throughout the duration of the policy. This is an additional benefit alongside the capital subsidy.

What technical standards must my charging station equipment meet to qualify for the 25% capital subsidy?
