Details

Coffee is a vital crop for many Indian farmers. To ensure its continued growth and to help farmers overcome water scarcity issues, the Coffee Board has launched a special scheme. This 'Development Support for Coffee in Traditional Areas: Water Augmentation' initiative is part of a larger project focused on integrated coffee development.

What Is This Scheme?

This scheme is designed to support coffee growers in traditional coffee-growing regions. It specifically focuses on helping them enhance their water resources. This can be through building water storage facilities like tanks or wells, or by installing modern irrigation systems such as sprinklers or drip irrigation.

Who Can Benefit From This Scheme?

The scheme is for individual coffee growers, those who jointly own land, or even family members applying together. It's open to those with coffee plantations up to 10 hectares in size. Importantly, this support extends to non-tribal coffee growers in Non-Traditional Areas as well, provided they meet the land holding criteria.

Why This Scheme Is Important

Water availability is crucial for healthy coffee plants and good yields. By supporting water augmentation, the scheme helps farmers manage water resources better, especially during dry spells. This not only improves coffee production and quality but also makes farming more resilient and sustainable.

Objective

This scheme by the Coffee Board aims to boost coffee production by helping growers in traditional areas improve their water sources and irrigation systems.

    FAQ’s

What is the minimum depth required for digging an open or ring well under this scheme?

The scheme recommends digging open wells or ring wells to a depth of 30 feet.

How much does it cost to dig an open or ring well, and what's the subsidy?

The unit cost for digging an open or ring well is ₹75,000 per unit. You can receive a subsidy of ₹30,000 for this activity.

Can I build a water storage tank of any size I need?

Yes, you have the freedom to build water storage tanks of any dimension you require. The subsidy will be calculated based on the official unit cost for your holding size or the actual expense, whichever is less.

What are the costs for sprinkler or drip irrigation systems for different land sizes?

The unit cost for sprinkler or drip irrigation equipment varies depending on your landholding size. For example, it starts at ₹60,000 for up to 1 hectare and goes up to ₹580,000 for holdings between 9 and 10 hectares.

How will I receive the subsidy money?

The Deputy Director (Extension) will approve your subsidy claim and transfer the amount directly into your bank account using methods like EFT, RTGS, or NEFT.

Are there any special benefits for SC/ST farmers?

Yes, coffee growers belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe communities who have coffee land up to 4 hectares can get an additional 10% subsidy. The maximum subsidy limit of ₹2,50,000 still applies.

How much subsidy can I get for a water storage tank based on my farm size?

The subsidy is 40% of the unit cost. For instance, for a holding up to 1 hectare, the subsidy is ₹17,200, while for holdings between 9 and 10 hectares, it can be up to ₹178,800. The maximum subsidy overall is ₹2,50,000.

What are the essential documents needed to start the application process for a Feasibility Report?

You'll need your filled application form, Aadhaar card, proof of land ownership (like Patta or RTC), a rough sketch of your estate, quotations for equipment, your bank passbook copy, and if applicable, your SC/ST caste certificate.

What is the process to claim the subsidy after completing the work?

After finishing the work, you must submit a claim statement along with the original bills for equipment purchased and a report confirming work completion and fund utilization. The Coffee Board will then verify and process your claim.

Do I need to get a report before I start any work under this scheme?

Yes, it's important to get a Technical Feasibility Report (TFR) from the Coffee Board before you begin any activities related to the scheme.

Can coffee growers in areas where coffee is not traditionally grown also apply?

Yes, non-tribal coffee growers located in Non-Traditional Areas are also eligible for this subsidy, provided their coffee holdings are up to 10 hectares.

Where exactly should I build the water augmentation infrastructure?

The water augmentation infrastructure should be built on your coffee estate or in its immediate surroundings, depending on where you can access water. The land where you build it should be registered in your name or your close family members' names.

If I've received subsidy before for water augmentation, when can I apply again?

If you have already received subsidy for a specific water augmentation activity, you will become eligible to apply for the same activity again starting from the 11th year.

Can I get subsidy for both a water tank and a drip irrigation system at the same time?

Yes, you can combine the subsidy for one type of water harvesting structure (like a tank or well) with the subsidy for one type of irrigation equipment (like sprinklers or drip system) during the MTF period. The subsidy amount will be as per the relevant holding category.

Can I get subsidy for the same water augmentation work more than once within the current MTF period?

No, if you have already received a subsidy for a specific activity or component, you cannot get it again during the same Multi-Year Thrust Plan (MTF) period, unless new beneficiaries are added to the scheme.

What kinds of water-related improvements does this subsidy cover?

The subsidy is applicable for two main things: building water harvesting structures, which include water storage tanks, open wells, or ring wells, and for purchasing irrigation equipment, such as sprinkler or drip systems.

Who is eligible to apply for this financial support?

The scheme is open to individual coffee growers, co-owners of land, or family members applying together (limited to parents, spouse, and children). You must have coffee holdings of up to 10 hectares.
