Details

Tiatr, a vibrant folk theatre form from Goa, has a rich history of scripts, songs, and performances. However, much of this literary treasure remains unpublished. To address this, the Tiatr Academy, under the Art, Culture and Museums Department of the Government of Goa, has launched the 'Preservation of Tiatr Literature' scheme. This initiative aims to encourage the publication of Tiatr scripts, one-act plays, and song lyrics (kantaram) in book form, ensuring this cultural heritage is passed on to future generations.

What Is This Scheme?

The 'Preservation of Tiatr Literature' scheme is designed to rescue and publish the literary works associated with Tiatr, Khell Tiatr, Khell, and One-Act Plays. It focuses on preserving scripts, song lyrics (kantaram), and music. The scheme provides a platform for writers and artists to get their works published in Konkani, written in the Roman script, and aims to promote the culture of publishing within the Tiatr community.

Who Can Benefit From This Scheme?

This scheme is for tiatr artists, their legal heirs, and publishers who are involved in preserving and promoting Goan theatre. It caters to individuals and groups who have compiled significant works related to Tiatr performances and music.

Why This Scheme Is Important

Despite the vast number of Tiatrs staged and songs sung over the years, a significant portion of these scripts and lyrics have not been published. This scheme is crucial for documenting and preserving this cultural legacy. By providing printing support, honorarium, and distribution of published works, it incentivizes writers and artists to formalize their creative output, making it accessible for study, performance, and appreciation.
