Pune Metro Successfully Completes Trial Run From Civil Court To Swargate Station; Check Connecting Routes
Pune Metro achieved a pivotal milestone as it completed a trial run from the Shivaji Nagar Civil Court underground station to the Swargate station. The facility will soon be fully functional, marking a significant step towards expanding transportation in the region. Ninety-eight percent of the project's work is completed, and the remaining construction is in full swing.
On Monday, the Pune Metro authorities commenced a trial run at 10:58 AM, passing through key stations including Budhwar Peth and Mandai before reaching Swargate at 11:59 AM. The journey covered a distance of 3.34 kilometers, with the train maintaining an average speed of 7.5 kilometers per hour, never exceeding 10 kilometers per hour.

The underground route passes beneath the Mutha River, which holds immense importance for Pimpri Chindwad and Pune. The underground network has five metro stations, namely, Shivaji Nagar, Civil Court, Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate. This is a six-kilometer stretch from Shivaji Nagar to Swargate.
The depth of the Budhwar Peth metro station is approximately 30 meters below the surface level, while the same for Mandai and Swargate stations is approximately 26 and 29 meters, respectively. Similarly, the Civil Court metro station is approximately 33 meters below the surface level, making it one of the deepest metro stations in the country.
Once operational, this network will connect the central part of the city and provide a fast and safe urban transport option to the city dwellers. The line will provide connectivity to old city areas like Kasba Ganpati, Dagdusheth Ganpati, Sadashiv Peth, Mandai, Swargate bus station, Mukund Nagar, Kasba Peth, Laxmi Road, Gadikhana, Shanipar Chowk, Bajirao Road, Tulshibaug, and other areas.
Managing Director of Maha Metro, Shravan Hardikar, said, "The test run from the Civil Court underground station to Swargate station is a historic event for the cities of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. This underground route passes beneath the Mutha River. It will be possible to travel directly from the PCMC metro station to Swargate station in the coming months. The work on the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi section is almost completed, and soon, this section will also be operational."
The trial run witnessed the presence of key dignitaries like Atul Gadgil, Director of the Pune Metro Project; Vinodkumar Aggarwal, Conducting and System Director; Hemant Sonaware, Executive Director of Public Relations and Administration; and Rajesh Dwivedi, overseeing Operation, Security, and Maintenance. In addition to this, Pune Metro staff members were also present.
