Pune Bridge Collapse: Maharashtra Govt Announces Rs 5 Lakh Ex-Gratia For Victims
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced financial aid for the victims' families, who died in a tragic bridge collapse incident in Pune. According to the reports, 5 died in the incident and many got injured. Each family of those who lost their lives will receive Rs 5 lakh as compensation. Additionally, the government will cover all medical expenses for those injured in the collapse.
The tragic incident happened in Kundamala village of Pune district when an old iron bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed due to heavy rain.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and fire services. Authorities suspect that 10 to 15 individuals might still be trapped under the debris. Emergency response teams are working tirelessly to locate and assist survivors.
Government's Immediate Response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in Cyprus, was briefed about the situation by CM Fadnavis. Modi expressed his concern and support for the affected families. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his condolences and praised the swift action taken by NDRF teams.
Efforts to Prevent Future Incidents
CM Fadnavis assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse. He emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring infrastructure safety and preventing similar tragedies in future.
The incident reportedly took place around 3:30 pm. Zone 2 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vishal Gaikwad mentioned that initially two fatalities were confirmed, with five to seven rescued individuals shifted to a hospital.
Ongoing Rescue Operations
Emergency services continue their efforts amid high water levels due to incessant rain. So far, five to six individuals have been rescued from the site. The fire brigade and local administration are coordinating closely in these operations.
"Heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured," stated Amit Shah, extending his sympathies to those affected by this unfortunate event.
