No Money, No Treatment! Pune Hospital Denies Treatment To Pregnant Lady In Emergency Situation, She Dies
In a tragic incident in Pune, Tanisha Bhise, a seven-month pregnant woman, died after being allegedly refused treatment by Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital due to a financial dispute. Despite her family's efforts to arrange the demanded sum, she passed away following complications after delivering twins. This harrowing situation has led to widespread outrage and prompted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to initiate an investigation into the matter. The family of the deceased woman reported that they were able to quickly gather Rs 3 lakhs, despite the hospital's insistence on a Rs 20 lakh payment for treatment.
According to Priyanka Patil, the sister-in-law of the deceased, the hospital's billing department refused to accept the partial amount, leading to a delay in treatment. Tanisha's condition worsened during this time, resulting in her bleeding and her blood pressure escalating. The family accused the hospital of neglect, suggesting that their actions amounted to murder.

In response to these serious allegations, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident. An inquiry committee, led by the Joint Commissioner of Charity in Pune, has been established to probe the circumstances leading to Tanisha Bhise's death. This committee includes various officials and representatives from the medical community, tasked with conducting a thorough and transparent investigation into the claims made by Bhise's family.
Community Leaders Demand Justice
Following the incident, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar assured that a prompt and fair investigation would be conducted, with appropriate actions taken against those found guilty. The incident has also drawn attention from local politicians, including BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe, who has publicly called for accountability, given that the deceased was married to his personal secretary. Gorkhe's call for justice underscores the community's demand for transparency and the importance of holding those responsible to account.
Despite the family's allegations, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital has denied any wrongdoing in their treatment of Tanisha Bhise. The hospital's refusal to admit Bhise over financial discrepancies has sparked a debate on the ethics of healthcare provision, particularly in emergency situations where lives are at stake. This case highlights the critical issue of access to healthcare and the potentially dire consequences of financial barriers to treatment.
The tragic death of Tanisha Bhise and her unborn children has ignited a conversation about the healthcare system's responsibilities and the urgent need for mechanisms to prevent such incidents from occurring. As the investigation unfolds, there is a collective hope for justice and measures to ensure that financial constraints do not cost precious lives in the future.
