Good New For Pedestrians! Subway Connecting Pune District and Family Courts Reopens
The pedestrian subway linking Pune District Court and Family Court is open again after almost four years. This reopening is due to the persistent efforts of the Pune Bar Association. The underpass was closed because of the Shivajinagar Metro Project, causing issues for advocates, court staff, and litigants. The association continuously urged municipal authorities to restore this vital route.
The official reopening took place on 26 June 2025. Principal District Judge Shyam Rukme, senior advocate and former corporator Adv. Vijay Singh Nikam, Adv. Nilesh Nikam, and current Pune Bar Association President Adv. Hemant Jhanzad were present at the ceremony. This development is expected to ease local traffic congestion significantly.

Efforts by the Pune Bar Association
The Pune Bar Association played a crucial role in advocating for the reopening of this underpass. Their consistent follow-ups with municipal authorities highlighted the inconvenience caused by its closure. Their efforts have now resulted in a more convenient connection between the two courts.
Advocate Hemant Zanjad, President of the Pune Bar Association, expressed gratitude towards everyone who attended the event. "The Bar Association has extended a humble invitation to all advocates, court staff, and dignitaries to grace the occasion and mark their presence at the event," he stated.
Impact on Local Traffic
With this route now accessible again, it is anticipated that traffic congestion in the area will decrease. The reopened subway provides a direct path between the courts, which should alleviate some of the local traffic issues that arose during its closure.
This development marks a significant improvement for those regularly commuting between these judicial facilities. The restored convenience is expected to benefit not only legal professionals but also those involved in ongoing litigation.
