Take A Look Inside India’s Majestic Rath Yatra, A Celebration Of Faith And Tradition
Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, is an annual celebration in India dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. The festival marks the ceremonial journey of these sibling deities from their home temple in Puri to the Gundicha Temple, believed to be their aunt’s dwelling. The processions feature massive 18-wheeled chariots, constructed over 42 days from thousands of wooden pieces, and draw millions of devotees. Interestingly, the term “Juggernaut” originated from the grandeur of this procession. Legend has it that the deities have a fever after sunbathing with 108 pitchers of water, prompting their visit to their aunt’s home. Take a look at the celebration photos here.
