Weather Update: IMD Issues Rain Alert In These States Till May 26; Check Details Here
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in several Indian states till May 26, in a relief from the heatwave conditions prevailing over the last few days across the country.
In its latest bulleting, IMD predicted rainfall and thunderstorm in isolated parts of the country including Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Punjab and south Haryana.
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and northeast Rajasthan on 24 and moderate to heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh on 25 May, the IMD said.

Uttarakhand,
Punjab,
Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi,
West
Uttar
Pradesh
and
north
Rajasthan
on
24
and
25;
over
Himachal
Pradesh
on
24
May.
"Duststorm and thunderstorm with gusty wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph is expected over Rajasthan between 24 to 26 May, 2023," it added.
IMD prediction in Northeast and East India
In
Northeast
India,
fairly
widespread
rainfall
is
expected
at
isolated
places
over
Assam,
Meghalaya,
Mizoram
and
Tripura
bwteen
24
to
26
May.
Rainfall is also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim for the next three days. While heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Bihar on 25 May.
South India
According
to
the
weather
department,
light
to
scattered
rainfall
with
thunderstorm
is
expected
over
most
parts
of
south
peninsular
India
during
next
2
days
except
Kerala
and
Mahe
where
fairly
wide
spread
is
very
likely
during
next
5
days.
Heatwave conditions
On Tuesday, maximum temperature hovered around 42-45°C in Vidarbha, some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, in isolated pockets over Odisha and below 40°C over rest parts of the country.
Maximum temperatures were above normal by 2-3°C in some parts of Punjab, West Bengal, coastal Odisha and parts of Northeast India and near normal over rest parts of the country.
