WATCH Delhi Accident Horror: Car Crash Kills Woman, Injures 6; Locals Take Action Against Driver

According to the police, a car mowed down at least six people and killed a 22-year-old woman in Delhi's Ghazipur area on Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Sita Devi of Ghaziabad, lost her life in the incident, which occurred in a market area around 9 pm.

The erring vehicle was vandalized by angry locals, and its driver was thrashed, sustaining serious injuries. The driver has been hospitalized, as reported by the police.

DCP (east) Apoorva Gupta informed PTI that the incident took place around 9:30 pm in the Budh Bazaar area. Several injured individuals were taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where one person in critical condition succumbed to injuries. The accused driver is also receiving medical treatment at the same hospital.

CCTV footage of the incident depicted the vehicle crashing into shops, after which the driver accelerated and drove off. Another video circulating on social media showed an enraged mob smashing the car's windscreen, windows, and attempting to break its doors before flipping it over, as reported Hindustan Times.

Locals have alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. However, the police stated that a medical examination of the accused would be conducted to determine if he was intoxicated.

The injured individuals, residents of Khoda Colony on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, are receiving treatment at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, as reported by news agency ANI. DCP Gupta mentioned that the accused is in police custody, and legal action is being pursued.

AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar also asserted that the driver was inebriated at the time of the incident, stating, "An accident occurred near Mayur Vihar's Ryan School. The driver was inebriated and ran over several people, killing one person. This is a tragic incident," as quoted by PTI.
