"She Felt Suffocated": Radhika Yadav’s Friend Reveals Years Of Family Control

Days after 18-year-old tennis player Radhika Yadav was tragically shot dead by her father, her close friend Himanshika Singh has spoken out, painting a painful picture of a young girl stifled by constant control and societal pressure.

In an emotional video, Himanshika-who had known Radhika since 2012-described the tennis star as someone who was repeatedly targeted at home for expressing herself. "She was constantly shamed for wearing shorts, talking to boys, and simply living life on her own terms," Himanshika said.

Revealing the extent of the restrictions Radhika lived under, she said the teenager's movements were tightly monitored. "She had to follow strict schedules-specific times to go out, and specific times to return. Even though her tennis academy was just 15 minutes away, she was expected to be back home within a set deadline," she recalled.

Radhika's video calls were also monitored. "Whenever she was on a call with me, she was asked to show her parents who she was speaking to," Himanshika said, adding that Radhika had very little freedom to interact with the outside world.

Calling the household atmosphere "suffocating," Himanshika alleged that Radhika's family was deeply orthodox. "They had issues with almost everything. Her father's constant criticism and controlling behaviour made her life miserable," she wrote in a separate post.

Himanshika described Radhika as a kind, gentle, and innocent soul who once enjoyed simple pleasures like taking pictures and recording videos. But gradually, even those hobbies faded away. "She lost touch with what made her happy. The pressure at home was overwhelming. Her family was always obsessed with what society would think," she said.

"She hardly spoke to anyone. Her world was just her parents-and within that world, she was answerable for everything," Himanshika added, underlining how isolated and burdened Radhika had become in the months leading up to her death.

The chilling revelations highlight a deeper issue of regressive societal norms and toxic family control that can suffocate a young person's aspirations and identity.
