Shahdara is one of the 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi, India. It falls under the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The name 'Shahdara' means 'door of kings' in Urdu, derived from 'shah' meaning 'king' and 'dara' meaning 'door' or 'entrance'. Historically, it served as a passage from Meerut to Delhi and developed around the Chotta Bazaar, known as Chandrawali Village, since the 16th century.
In 2012, Shahdara was designated as an administrative and revenue district of Delhi, with its headquarters located in Nand Nagri. The district is situated near the banks of the Yamuna River and encompasses residential areas. It is close to Central Delhi's Chandni Chowk and Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad. The area near the GT Road toll is commonly known as Shahdara Border.

As the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections approach, Shahdara is set to witness a competitive political battle. Three major candidates from leading parties are in the fray, each bringing their own experience and background.
Jagat Singh - Indian National Congress (INC)
Jagat Singh is representing the Indian National Congress in the upcoming election. He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from Mihir Bhoj Degree College, Dadri, under Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Uttar Pradesh, completed in 1994. His declared assets amount to Rs 2.13 crore, and he has no criminal cases against him.
Jitender Singh Shunty - Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)
Jitender Singh Shunty, the candidate from the Aam Aadmi Party, has an educational qualification of 10th pass. He completed his secondary education in 1977 from Govt. Boys Sr. Sec. School, Jhilmil Colony, Shahdara, Delhi. A certificate was issued by Vice-Principal Avinash Chandra Chadha of Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Jhilmil Colony. His declared assets are valued at Rs 7.60 crore, and he has no criminal record.
Sanjay Goyal - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
Sanjay Goyal, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, is a graduate professional with degrees in Commerce and Law. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in 1988 from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi. Later, he completed his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree in 1991 from Law Centre, Mandir Marg, University of Delhi. His declared assets total Rs 54.47 crore, and he has no criminal charges.
Shahdara Constituency Result 2020
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Ram Niwas Goel won the Shahdara seat with 62,103 votes. He was followed by Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Sanjay Goyal, who secured 56,809 votes, and Congress's Narendra Nath, who received 4,474 votes. In the 2015 elections, Ram Niwas Goel also emerged victorious, obtaining 58,523 votes. BJP's Jitender Singh Shunty garnered 46,792 votes, while Congress's Narendra Nath received 9,423 votes.

Shahdara is well-connected through the Delhi Metro network, with stations such as Shahdara, Welcome, Mansarovar Park, and Jhilmil serving the area. These stations facilitate easy commuting to various parts of Delhi.
The district is divided into three subdivisions: Shahdara, Vivek Vihar, and Seemapuri. Each subdivision has its own administrative setup to manage local affairs.

According to the 2011 Census, Shahdara district had a total population of 322,931, comprising 169,409 males and 153,522 females. The population was entirely urban, with the district recording a density of 59,703 persons per square kilometre. The literacy rate stood at 86.25 per cent.
