Schools To Remain Closed In Delhi; Know What Supreme Court Said Over Air Pollution And Quality
The Supreme Court recently addressed the air pollution crisis in Delhi, focusing on the reopening of schools. The court advised waiting two more days to monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) before making a decision. "Our suggestion is to see the AQI label for the next two days.. bring the data the day after tomorrow, then we will see what the trend is in the last two days and then take a decision on the matter related to opening of educational institutions," stated the court.
Additionally, the Supreme Court criticised Delhi's government for inadequate enforcement of Stage-IV restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The court noted that between November 18 and 23, guidelines were not properly followed. This included failing to prevent trucks from entering Delhi, which contributed to worsening air quality.

Delhi Government's Response Under Scrutiny
The court's observations highlighted significant lapses in implementing measures aimed at curbing pollution. The failure to enforce GRAP Stage-IV restrictions has been a major concern. These measures are crucial for managing pollution levels during critical periods. The government's inability to control truck entry into Delhi was particularly noted as a contributing factor.
Authorities have been urged to take immediate action to address these shortcomings. Effective implementation of GRAP guidelines is essential for improving air quality and protecting public health. The court's intervention underscores the urgency of addressing pollution issues in Delhi.
Impact on Educational Institutions
The delay in reopening schools reflects concerns over student safety amid high pollution levels. Monitoring AQI trends over the next few days will be crucial in determining when it is safe for students to return. The court's decision aims to ensure that educational institutions operate without compromising health standards.
This situation highlights broader challenges faced by urban areas grappling with pollution. It also emphasises the need for comprehensive strategies and strict enforcement of environmental regulations. As authorities work towards resolving these issues, public awareness and cooperation remain vital components in tackling air pollution effectively.
The Supreme Court's involvement serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to environmental protocols. Ensuring compliance with established guidelines is key to mitigating pollution impacts and safeguarding community well-being.
