S Jaishankar appointed new foreign secretary, replaces Sujatha Singh
New Delhi, Jan 28: Indian Ambassador to the United States Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was on Wednesday appointed as the new Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs.
Jaishankar, 60, replaced Sujatha Singh, who had been serving in the post since August 2013 and was due to retire in August this year.
Jaishankar, an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1977 batch, was a key official who negotiated the Indo-US nuclear deal in 2009. He also served as the envoy to China.
