Passenger Caught With 2 Kg Gold Bars Worth Rs 1.91 Crore At Delhi Airport

A 40-year-old male traveler, arriving from Dubai to Delhi, was stopped by Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on April 25 for attempting to smuggle two kilograms of gold bars valued at approximately Rs 1.91 crore. The passenger, who was on flight SG-6, was chosen for additional inspection based on profiling conducted at the green channel exit.

During X-ray screening of his luggage, Customs officials identified unusual images. Although there was no alert from the Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) as the passenger walked through, a detailed search of his baggage uncovered the hidden gold bars. The gold, with a total weight of 2 kilograms, was meticulously concealed, and the individual was carrying gold worth around Rs 1.91 crore.

The man, who lives in Jaipur, Rajasthan, was arrested, and further legal actions are currently being taken in accordance with Customs regulations. The gold bars were confiscated, and inquiries are underway to determine if he was associated with a larger smuggling operation.

This incident follows another occurrence on April 8, when Customs officials at IGI Airport apprehended an Iraqi national coming from Baghdad with 1,203 grams of suspected gold-coated silver jewelry. These ongoing efforts by Customs authorities illustrate the persistent fight against gold smuggling at one of India's busiest international airports.

The authorities are ramping up their strategies to combat smuggling activities by employing profiling, screening, and examination methods to identify illegal items. The most recent seizure underscores the constant vigilance of Customs officers in ensuring that smuggling activities do not jeopardize national security and economic stability. Additional investigations into the passenger's associations and potential syndicate activities are anticipated.
