Onslaught of people like Narendra Modi must be fought together: PM

New Delhi, Oct 2: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday took a dig at BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi by taking his name for the first time. Singh said all secular forces should come together to fight the onslaught of "people like Modi". "You wait for some time before the people realise what they are up against," Manmohan said.

The BJP wasted no time to hit back at Singh, calling his statement "ridiculous". The principal opposition party said the ruling Congress was busy giving communal angle to every story and creating a division in the society. Party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said those who encourage division and then call for a united secular front look ridiculous.

In 2006, PM Singh had said that Muslims should have the first claim on resources

He also mentioned about the Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's recent letter to chief ministers asking their administration not to target Muslim youths and also his "Hindu terror" remark which had sparked off a huge controversy some months ago. Shinde was forced to withdraw after the BJP took a tough stand.

The BJP leader also reminded the prime minister's statement made at the National Development Council in 2006 that the Muslims should have first right over the country's natural resources and said such remarks fuel communal divide in the society.
