Their motorcycle was struck from behind by the luxury vehicle on the Ring Road near the Delhi Cantt metro station. The impact of the crash, which occurred between 1.30 pm and 2 pm, was so severe that the BMW reportedly overturned.

The driver of the car, identified as Gaganpreet, and her husband, Parikshit Makkad, are now facing serious charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and concealing evidence.

Why Was Official Taken to Distant Hospital?

A critical element of the investigation revolves around why the accused transported the severely injured couple to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, a facility nearly 19 kilometers from the accident site, instead of a nearer medical center. Police sources have told the publication that the hospital is co-owned by Gaganpreet's father.

In her formal complaint, Sandeep Kaur, a teacher, stated that she repeatedly pleaded with the driver to take them to a nearby hospital as her husband was unconscious and required urgent care. "I kept requesting her to take us to a nearby hospital... But despite my repeated requests, she took us to a small hospital far away," her statement reads. Navjot Singh succumbed to his injuries hours later.

The couple's son, Navnoor Singh, echoed these concerns, questioning the logic of the long journey. "Time is critical. Maybe he would have survived if he had been taken to a nearby hospital," he told NDTV. He further alleged a connection between the accused and the hospital's ownership.

Sandeep Kaur, who was wearing a helmet while her husband wore a turban, survived the crash but with significant injuries, including multiple fractures and a head wound that required 14 stitches. She is currently undergoing treatment at a different hospital. An FIR has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, encompassing charges from destruction of evidence to acts endangering life.
