This marked the continuation of a winning trend for Tripathi, who had established himself as the dominant force in the constituency. The Congress party, which had fielded Akanksha Ola, garnered just 4.08% of the vote share with 4,085 votes, while the NOTA (None of the Above) option received 841 votes, accounting for 0.84% of the total.

Other minor parties and independent candidates, including Parmod Kumar Sahani from the BSP and Rajesh Kumar Tiwari from PHRC, failed to make a significant impact, contributing a combined total of less than 1% of the votes.

2015 Election: A Larger Margin of Victory for AAP

The 2015 elections saw Akhilesh Pati Tripathi win with an even larger margin. He secured 54,628 votes, or 52.38% of the vote share, defeating BJP's Vivek Garg, who received 37,922 votes (36.36%).

This election cemented Tripathi's popularity in Model Town as he claimed a margin of 16,706 votes over his closest rival. Congress's Kanwar Karan Singh finished in third place with 8,992 votes, but the contest was never in doubt for Tripathi.

In this election, other candidates included Gautam from the independent camp, who garnered 1,176 votes (1.13%), and a handful of other minor contenders.

However, none of them made any significant challenge to Tripathi's stronghold.

The 2025 Contest: A Diverse Field of Candidates

As Model Town gears up for the 2025 assembly elections, the battle for the seat will be closely watched, with multiple parties fielding candidates.

The race will feature several notable names:

Akhilesh Pati Tripathi (AAP): The incumbent MLA, Tripathi will be looking to maintain his dominance in the constituency and secure a third consecutive victory.

Ashok Goel (BJP): A well-known figure in BJP circles, Goel will attempt to wrest the seat from AAP after a series of defeats.

Kanwar Karan Singh (Congress): The Congress party's candidate, Singh, will hope to build on his party's presence in the constituency and challenge AAP's hold.

Chunni Lal (BSP) and Pankaj Kumar (RJP) will also look to make a mark, although their chances seem slim based on past trends.

Vivek Giri (AAPP), Awdhesh Kumar Jha (RTORP), Roman Rashid and Chander Pal (Independents) will add to the diversity of candidates vying for the seat.

What to Expect in 2025?

Looking ahead to the 2025 election, it seems that AAP will remain the frontrunner, given its strong base in Model Town.

However, with candidates from BJP, Congress, and smaller parties making their presence felt, the race will likely be more competitive.

The previous elections have demonstrated that AAP has a significant lead, but political dynamics can shift rapidly, especially as Delhi continues to experience changes in voter sentiment.

While AAP has maintained a consistent lead, it will be interesting to see whether the BJP or Congress can mobilise support effectively, or if the smaller parties and independent candidates can play a pivotal role in altering the electoral landscape.

With Model Town's history of closely fought elections, 2025 will undoubtedly be another important chapter in the constituency's political journey.

Voters will have to wait and see who will emerge victorious and whether AAP's influence will remain unchallenged or if a new political force will take the reins.
