The Chandra Grahan on May 5 will begin at 08. 44 pm and will end at 01.01 am on May 6. The penumbral lunar eclipse will last for 4 hours and 18 minutes.

If the weather permits, the rare celestial event will be visible from India. People living in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Antarctica will get the opportunity to witness the lunar eclipse.

What is a penumbral lunar eclipse?

Lunar Eclipse happens on a full moon day when the earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon and when all three objects are aligned.

According to NASA, a total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon comes under the umbral shadow of the Earth and a partial lunar eclipse occurs when only when a part of the moon comes under the shadow of the Earth.

According to Time and Date, a penumbral lunar eclipse happens when the Sun, Earth, and the Moon are imperfectly aligned. When this happens, the Earth obscures the Sun's light and casts a shadow onto the Moon's surface, causing a lunar eclipse.
