Kejriwal to Contest from New Delhi Seat, Labels It 'Common Man vs CM Sons' Battle

In the upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections set for February 2025, former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has put to rest any rumors about changing his constituency. He has affirmed his decision to run from the New Delhi seat. This announcement came during his appearance at the 'Agenda Aaj Tak' event in Delhi, where Kejriwal framed the electoral battle in his constituency as a showdown between "CM sons and the common man." The AAP is aiming for its fourth consecutive victory in these elections, asserting that the campaign will be spearheaded under Kejriwal's leadership. He confidently stated, "This election is being fought in the name of Kejriwal, and I will become the Chief Minister of Delhi," emphasizing the temporary position of current Chief Minister Atishi, who filled in during his absence due to legal issues related to the excise policy case.

Kejriwal's declaration also included confirmation that Atishi would continue to represent the Kalkaji constituency, dismissing any speculation about her moving to another seat. "There will be no change. I will contest from New Delhi seat and Chief Minister Atishi from Kalkaji," he clarified, underscoring the stability in the party's candidate lineup for the key seats. The AAP's strategy seems to revolve around leveraging the personal brands of its high-profile leaders to secure a strong mandate in the forthcoming elections.

In a strategic shift, the party has relocated former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia from the Patparganj to the Jangpura seat. Moreover, newcomer Awadh Ojha has been selected to contest from Patparganj, indicating a reshuffle designed to optimize the AAP's electoral prospects. Sisodia took to X to express his gratitude towards the AAP leadership for entrusting him with the Jangpura candidacy, reflecting on his journey from an educator to a politician committed to Delhi's educational reform.

The electoral landscape of the New Delhi constituency is shaping up to be a high-profile contest, with the Congress nominating Sandeep Dikshit, son of three-time Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, and the BJP expected to field Parvesh Verma, son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma, against Kejriwal. This sets the stage for a significant political showdown, highlighting the contrast between political legacies and Kejriwal's "common man" persona.

Looking ahead, Delhi is poised for its assembly elections with all 70 constituencies going to polls by February 2025. The last election in February 2020 saw the AAP securing the state government, marking Kejriwal's third term as the Chief Minister. The tenure of the current 7th Delhi Assembly will conclude on 15 February 2025, setting the timeline for this pivotal electoral event.
