J&K unrest: All eyes on Modi-Mehbooba meet today

New Delhi, Aug 27: All eyes would be on the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti. The meeting is important as both leaders would try and find a solution in the Valley, which has been on the boil for over 48 days. The two leaders are scheduled to meet in New Delhi at 10.30 AM.

Modi had a few days back expressed the need for a dialogue to find a solution in the Valley. Mehbooba during her meeting with Modi would emphasise on the need to announce confidence building measures.

During her meeting with Home Minister, Rajnath Singh recently, Mehbooba had reiterated the need to announce confidence building measures apart from showing willingness to resolve the conflict.

The meeting would discuss a host of issues which would also include the visit by members of the civil society to the Valley on Saturday. In addition to this, the centre has also decided to send an all party delegation to J&K. The visit has been scheduled for the first week of September.

The centre expects that the state government would play a bigger role to find a solution. The centre has assured of all assistance and expects that the state would do more to put and end to the crisis.

Among the various steps, the centre also decided to find an alternative to the use of pellet guns. Several persons have condemned the use of pellet guns as it had blinded several protestors.

An expert committee had suggested the use of the chilli filled Pelargonic Acid Vanillyl Amide (PAVA) grenades as a replacement to pellet guns. Rajnath Singh, had said that an announcement by the expert committee would be out in the next day or two.
