A devastating explosion near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi resulted in eight fatalities and numerous injuries. Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed ongoing investigations into the incident as security measures were intensified across the city.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that all investigative angles are being explored to determine the cause of the Delhi blast that killed at least eight people on Monday evening.

A high-intensity explosion ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station, causing panic among the public.

Following the explosion, Amit Shah visited LNJP hospital to meet those injured. Twenty-four individuals were hurt in the blast and were transported to this nearby hospital for treatment. The area was bustling with people when the explosion took place, adding to the chaos.

Investigation Underway

The Union Home Minister stated, "A blast took place in a Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort in Delhi today at around 7 pm. Due to the blast, 3-4 vehicles were damaged, and people also got injured, and some died. As per Hospital sources, eight people have died so far. Some of the injured are being treated here. We have launched a thorough investigation, keeping all angles open."

When asked if it was a terrorist attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah says, "We are keeping all angles open and investigating from all angles. It is very difficult to say what caused the incident. Until the samples recovered from the blast site are analysed by FSL and NSG, it is difficult to say anything about it. However, we do not consider any angle closed. We will investigate all angles with determination."

Authorities responded as soon as they received reports of the explosion. Teams from Delhi Police Special Cell, Crime Branch, NIA, SPG, and FSL arrived promptly to conduct investigations. Amit Shah expressed hope that agencies would soon conclude their findings on what caused the blast.

Security Measures Intensified

A senior police officer told PTI that three individuals were inside the moving Hyundai i20 when it exploded. Interestingly, no pellets or puncture wounds were found on any injured bodies—a rarity for bomb blasts—prompting further investigation into different possibilities.

The vehicle involved was registered under Nadeem Khan's name and had a Haryana number plate. Following this incident, Delhi has been placed on high alert with increased security checks at city borders and intensified vehicle inspections.

Eyewitness Accounts

Videos shared by Chandni Chowk Traders' Association highlighted the explosion's severity. One clip showed a mangled body atop a vehicle while another displayed a body lying on the road. Eyewitnesses reported seeing body parts scattered around the site.

The Delhi Fire Services dispatched ten fire tenders to control flames from burning cars after police cordoned off affected areas. Officials confirmed that by 7:29 pm, they managed to bring the blaze under control.
