Irony Died! Delhi Police Uses Water Cannon On People Protesting Against Water Shortage; Social Media Reacts

Amidst Delhi water crisis, the Delhi police on Saturday faced criticism after it used water cannons to stop and dispose protesters. These protesters were BJP workers and residents on the national capital who hit the road against shortage of water. The huge protest was staged outside the Delhi Jal Board's office in Okhla, led by former BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri.

The video of the incident created a buzz on internet and social media users trolled police highlighting the irony of the act.

Police Uses Water Cannon On Protesters

A user on micro-blogging site X, formerly Twitter, said, "Delhi is suffering from a water crisis, yet the police are using water cannons on protesters,"

Another user wrote: "People are protesting for water shortage and police are using water cannons !!"

"Instead, the water tank could have been given to the protesters. They might have thanked the police for the water," said one more user.

"Happens only in India! Use a water cannon to muzzle a protest against water crisis," another Twitter user commented on the viral video of Delhi Police using water guns.

Delhi Water Crisis:

The national capital is facing a hard time amid scorching heat and rising temperature and several parts of Delhi have been facing an acute water shortage. The water shortage has disturbed people's lives forcing them to rely on borewells and high-cost tanker services.

Between the chaos, Delhi's Water Minister Atishi has also sat on an indefinite protest in demand from the center to intervene and tell Haryana to release Delhi's share of water.

She also alleged that today some BJP workers tried to attack her, just like they attacked and vandalised some of the Delhi Jal Board offices.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena on Saturday held the AAP government responsible for the prevailing water crisis in the city.

"Political leaders of Delhi have turned a crisis into an opportunity for blaming the neighbouring states with the sole aim of gaining political mileage. This polemical exercise has ended up compounding the problems of Delhi people and antagonizing the neighbouring states grappling with water scarcity," Saxena said on the water crisis situation.
