IMD Issues Fresh Red Alert For Delhi As Temperatures Soar Beyond 45°C; Relief Expected After June 12
As temperatures continue to climb in the national capital, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh 'red' alert for Delhi, upgrading its earlier 'orange' alert in response to the worsening conditions.
In its latest nowcast, the IMD stated that the red alert will remain in place for Wednesday and Thursday, warning of a severe heatwave sweeping across the Delhi-NCR region as temperatures soar past 45°C.

According to the bulletin issued at 2 PM, heatwave conditions are expected to persist, with temperatures ranging between 44°C and 46°C.
"Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at many places across Delhi-NCR," the IMD noted.
Delhi temperatures breach 45°C
A PTI report revealed that Delhi's Safdarjung station recorded a maximum temperature of 43.8°C, while Ayanagar touched 45.5°C - both above seasonal norms.
"Delhi-NCR is under red alert today and tomorrow, followed by an orange alert on June 13. Light showers and thunderstorms are possible on the night of June 13 due to a western disturbance, which could bring some respite," said Dr Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at the IMD, speaking to PTI.
Northwest India bracing for continued heatwave
The IMD bulletin also stated that heatwave conditions are "very likely at many/some places" in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from 11 to 14 June, with a severe heatwave expected on 11 and 12 June.
Alongside Delhi, red warnings have also been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab.
Residents across Delhi-NCR may experience some relief after 12 June, with light rain forecast across the region. According to the IMD, the incoming western disturbance is expected to ease conditions slightly, prompting a downgrade from red to orange alert.
