Drunk Audi Driver Mows Down 5 Sleeping On Delhi Footpath, Including 8-Year-Old Girl
In a shocking case of reckless driving, a 40-year-old man was arrested after allegedly driving his Audi onto a Delhi footpath and running over five people sleeping there, including an 8-year-old girl. The incident took place around 1:45 a.m. on July 9 in the Vasant Vihar area.
The accused, identified as Utsav Shekhar, a real estate agent based in Dwarka, was reportedly returning from Noida when he lost control of the vehicle. Eyewitnesses say the white Audi suddenly mounted the curb near Shiva Camp, striking the victims as they lay asleep. The car then drove further and crashed into a stationary truck.

The injured victims were immediately taken to local hospitals. They have been identified as Ladhi (40), her husband Sabami alias Chirma (45), their daughter Bimla (8), and another couple-Ram Chander (45) and his wife Narayani (35). All the victims are originally from Rajasthan and had been living on the streets in the area.
Police confirmed that Shekhar was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
This tragic incident follows a disturbing pattern of dangerous driving in Delhi. Just two months earlier, in May, a 19-year-old driver killed two people and injured three others after hitting a cyclist and crashing into a roadside slum in west Delhi. In April, a two-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by a car driven by her 15-year-old neighbour in the Paharganj area.
Authorities have reiterated the need for stricter enforcement against underage and drunk driving as such cases continue to rise in the national capital.
