Do 'Aachman' With Yamuna's Water In Mathura: Akhilesh Challenges Yogi, Comes To Kejriwal's Rescue

Yamuna River has become a focal point in political debates, especially after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's remarks. He challenged Arvind Kejriwal to take a dip in the Yamuna, similar to his own dip in Prayagraj with his cabinet. This challenge was part of his speech during a rally for the Delhi Assembly elections.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav responded to CM Yogi's challenge by suggesting that Yogi should perform 'Aachman' with Yamuna's water in Mathura. This comment was made on X, without directly naming Yogi. The exchange highlights the political tension surrounding the river's pollution issues.

Political Challenges and Accusations

The BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticised Arvind Kejriwal over the polluted state of the Yamuna River. He accused Kejriwal of failing to deliver on promises to clean the river, claiming it has worsened under his leadership. Poonawalla questioned whether Kejriwal and his team could take a holy dip in the Yamuna like Yogi did in Prayagraj.

Yamuna's pollution has been a longstanding issue in Delhi politics. Over time, it has become a symbol of environmental neglect and political promises unfulfilled. Efforts to clean and conserve the river have been ongoing, yet challenges remain significant.

Upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with results expected on February 8. A total of 699 candidates are vying for 70 assembly seats. The election campaign has seen various issues being raised, including environmental concerns like the state of the Yamuna River.

Yogi Adityanath accused Kejriwal of turning the sacred Yamuna into a "dirty drain," calling it a "sin." This accusation adds another layer to the political discourse around environmental responsibility and governance.

Kejriwal has previously pledged to clean up the Yamuna and restore its ecological balance. However, critics argue that these promises have not translated into effective action, leaving the river more polluted than before.
