Dense Fog Grounds Delhi: 47 Trains Delayed, Air Quality Worsens

As Delhi grapples with a dense fog that has drastically reduced visibility, 47 trains commencing from the city are experiencing significant delays. The fog has led to the late running of 41 trains, some delayed by more than three hours, including notable ones like the KIR-ASR EXP and the LICHCHVI EXP. The schedule of 6 trains has also been altered to accommodate the disruptions caused by the fog.

This early morning fog has persisted, causing a ripple effect on train schedules across various routes. The temperature in Delhi currently hovers around 10°C, complicating travel plans for many. Railway officials are implementing necessary measures for the safety of passengers, though delays are anticipated to continue through the morning.

Dense Fog

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that Delhi and its surrounding regions are under the grip of dense fog, marking a cold start to the day. It is predicted that moderate fog will linger until January 21, followed by expectations of light rain or thundershowers on January 22 and 23. Morning temperatures are forecasted to be between 7°C and 12°C, with daytime temperatures expected to rise between 18°C and 21°C.

For those planning to travel from key stations like New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin, it is recommended to stay updated with real-time train statuses through official railway apps or websites and pay attention to station announcements for any last-minute changes.

The adverse weather conditions have also impacted air quality in Delhi, which has seen a decrease in quality. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 335 this morning, marking it as 'very poor’ according to the Sameer app, a drop from Saturday’s AQI of 248. Although the air quality in Delhi has seen fluctuations, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has recently removed Stage-III restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) owing to slight improvements in AQI levels.

As the cold weather deepens, the city's homeless population is increasingly reliant on night shelters for warmth, highlighting the broader implications of the season's harsh conditions. The situation continues to be closely monitored by the authorities.
