Delhi Weather Update: Hot Day For Voting; Advice From IMD, ECI
According to the India Meteorological Department's Regional Centre in Delhi, while there may be some heatwave conditions in isolated places of Delhi, there are no red alerts for a severe heatwave anytime soon. Still, readers should remain cautious when going out, especially since today is also the voting day for the 6th Phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Isolated Heatwave Conditions Throughout Delhi:

According to the IMD report, today, 25 May, there will be heatwave conditions in some isolated regions, but the highest temperature for today will only be 43°C. Still, there is also a prediction of a warm night, so those who plan to go vote later in the evening may want to be wary and carry a lot of water.
26 May until 29 May have the same forecast as they did yesterday, that being heatwaves in isolated regions with maximum temperatures fluctuating between 44°C and 45°C. After that, from 30 May onwards, there are no warnings of heatwaves, even though temperatures are still expected to range between 43°C to 44°C.
The lowest temperature for this week forecasted for today is only 30.6°C with the rest of the days fluctuating between 31°C and 32°C.
Advice Given By IMD:
Today's heat is tolerable for the general public, but may cause issues for vulnerable individuals like infants, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases. In order to combat the heat while going to a polling booth, IMD gave the following advice:
- Avoid heat exposure.
- Wear lightweight, light coloured, loose, cotton clothes.
- Cover your head: Use a cloth, hat or Umbrella.
In certain isolated regions, though, the weather department is concerned that those who are exposed to the sun for too long may develop heat illness symptoms. In order to combat this, they suggested the following:
- Avoid heat exposure- keep cool.
- Avoid dehydration.
- Drink sufficient water- even if not thirsty.
- Use ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, buttermilk, etc. to keep yourself hydrated.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) also tweeted out in mid-April some instructions and guidelines for going to vote in the heat.
Other Forecasted Weather For Delhi:
While the humidity can still reach high peaks, with the maximum in the last 24 hours reaching 64%, there are no signs of rain anytime soon. The union territory is expected to remain dry for till 30 May.
Strong winds are still forecast to be present occasionally during the next couple days, reaching speeds anywhere between 25 km/h to 40 km/h.
