Delhi Weather Alert: Light Rain In These Areas? Orange Alert For Heatwaves

According to the India Meteorological Department's Regional Centre in Delhi, it has been forecast that there may be light rain in some isolated areas in Delhi during the afternoon or evening today, 14 June. These areas include Jafarpur, Najafgarh, Ayanagar, Lodi Road, Palam, Ridge, Safdarjung, Pitampura, Pragati Maidan, Pusa, and Rajghat. Not all the regions listed may receive rain as it has just been listed as a possibility.

Heatwave conditions, however, still persist as orange alerts have been given out by IMD for 14 June till 15 June, with yellow alerts for the rest of the week, till 20 June. It may also be possible for the heatwave conditions to get worse as the neighbouring state, Uttar Pradesh, has received red alerts for heatwave in many of its western districts.

Delhi Weather And Temperature For The Next Week:

Orange alerts have been given out for heatwaves in Delhi for 14 June till 15 June, with the expectation of warm nights for the first day. Temperatures in the region are to remain high, with maximum temperatures potentially reaching up to 44°C to 45°C. Some areas like Jafarpur and Pitampura may also reach 46°C during the day.

Minimum temperatures may vary, with most regions expecting to go as low as 30°C, while some parts like Pitampura and Pusa won't go lower than 34°C to 35°C. Warm night conditions have been forecast in these areas.

As for other weather related forecasts, thunderstorms and lightning may hit Delhi in isolated areas today, 14 June, alongside light rain in the afternoon. Rest of the week, from 14 June till 19 June, the only forecasts given are of mainly clear skies, yellow alerts for heatwaves, and gusty winds during the day that may reach speeds between 20 km/h to 40 km/h.

20 June is the exception, where again thunderstorms and light rain have been forecast to hit isolated parts of the region.

IMD's Advice To Beat The Heat:

While rains have been forecast in some regions, they may not be enough to provide reprieve from the heat. Those who are exposed to the sun for too long or perform heavy labour during the day may be vulnerable to heat illness conditions, which is why IMD has given out the following advice:

  1. Avoid heat exposure- keep cool.
  2. Avoid dehydration.
  3. Drink sufficient water- even if not thirsty.
  4. Use ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, buttermilk, etc. to keep yourself hydrated.
